Celebrity gossip: Has the media gone too far? – Part 10

Celebrities who understand how to play the media can usually benefit from fame and fortune. If they can control their egos and are able to deal with all the attention then they should fare well. Unfortunately, there are many celebrities who can’t handle being in the limelight. Ironically, they are often attention-seekers who suffer from low self-esteem. Their egos are dependent on public opinion. They need a constant supply of praise and adoration to feed their egos. They are only as good as their most recent performance so that an unforgiving public will turn against them very easily. The media play on this. They know that people love to idolize film stars and singers. They also know, however, that those same people will revel in the fall from grace of stars. Is it a sadistic streak in people that allows them to buy newspapers and magazines that are full of compromising pictures and gossip about people who were once so successful? Is it a sense of jealousy? Why do we love to see our stars publicly disgraced, embarrassed, humiliated?

We must take responsibility for what happens to our celebrities. We made them famous and now we are throwing rotten apples at them when they can’t cope with the pressure. The media would not hound and harass celebrities if we as the public do not buy gossipy magazines and trashy newspapers.
