I am very excited about the Sex and the City movie. And as Mother’s Day approaches, I have been thinking about one of my favourite episodes: the one where a shaky Charlotte reassures a very pregnant Miranda that she will be a good mother. It’s very touching. Miranda reaches her epiphany while comforting Charlotte, who is weeping in the bedroom during a baby shower she is hosting for Miranda. Charlotte is having trouble coming to terms with the fact that her husband is willing to accept their infertility and a childless marriage.

What I love most about this episode is the way the two women ‘mother’ each other. There just isn’t another word for it. Most of the time, most of us would prefer a friend to be a friend and not a mother, but sometimes we can all use a little mothering.

Lately it seems that there is a shortage of mothering where it is most needed: with the young.

First there was the brouhaha over the Lolita-like picture of tween sensation Miley Cyrus in Vanity Fair. If you haven’t heard, the million-dollar baby, also known as the outrageously popular Disney character Hanna Montana, had a bare-backed, sheet-draped, red-lipped shot taken by Annie Leibowitz, who is known for just such controversial images. There is no doubt the image is very sexy. It reminded me of the images taken of Brooke Shields when she starred as a child prostitute in Louis Malle’s Pretty Baby, and was at the centre of a similar controversy.

Do you ever think to yourself as you are watching a celebrity, that has just given birth 6 weeks ago, walking down the red carpet looking ever so fabulous, with her bosoms overflowing and no pooch in sight, “How does she do it when I can’t?” Well, celebrity moms have several tricks up their sleeves, and no, this one doesn’t cost thousands of dollars. So what is this genetically blessed goddess doing that you’re not? Its called abdominal binding, and it is the secret weapon used the world over. We happened to run into Britney at Swings N Things, where she was ostensibly shopping for her kids, who are later picked up by one of K-Fed’s gophers and driven away from Britney’s Mulholland estate.

For many the first sighting of the majestic Angkor temples was through the Lara Croft:  Tomb Raider movie with Angelina Jolie. Who could forget the sight of the giant trees with massive root structures engulfing the roofs and walls of the Ta Phrom temple?

The Ta Phrom temple is but one temple in the Angkor Park, with the most well known and photographed being Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. The Angkor temple complex is a World Heritage site noted not only for its architecture but its massive carved reliefs which are works of art in their own right.

Angkor Wat is situated in the North Western area of Cambodia in Siem Reap City.  The easiest and quickest route there is by air landing at the Siem Reap International Airport.  The airport which is Cambodia’s second largest is located 7 kilometres from the city centre.

The Siem Reap International Airport is serviced by over twenty different airlines.  Some of these airlines include Air Asia, Asiana Air, Singapore Airlines, Jetstar Asia Airlines, Korean Air, Malaysia Airlines, Royal Khmer Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Lao Aviation, Siem Reap Airways, Silk air, Dragon Air, Bangkok Air (Asia’s Best Regional Airline 2008), Angkor Airways and China Yunnan Airlines. 

The above-mentioned airlines, many of which are international carriers offer incoming and outgoing flights to a number of South East Asian cities.  These cities include Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Vientiane, Taipei, Incheon and Canton.  A bonus for travellers is that they may get an aerial glimpse of Angkor Wat on their flights into or out of the Airport.

Besides direct flights travellers can be redirected from Cambodia’s Capital City Airport, The Phnom Penh International Airport. This is a short forty five minute flight from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. In comparison the bus trip over the sealed highway or the boat trip up the Tonie Sap Lake would take five to six hours.

For the more adventurous, there is an overland route from Bangkok, Thailand via the border at Poi Pet. Travellers face a nine to ten hour bus trip to their Angkor destination albeit at a far cheaper price. Once in Siem Reap the treasures of the Angkor temples await them.

nt interview with BuddyTV’s Debbie Chang, Gossip Girls’ Jessica Szohr shared things about her character Vanessa Abrams and what it’s like shooting in New York.

Vanessa Abrams is the childhood best friend of Dan Humphreys. When asked to talk about her character, Jessica shared, “she moved away with her parents to Vermont and comes back and confessed her love to Dan Humphrey, and realizes that he is on a whole other page from when she left New York . And she came back and is working on a documentary, and has a job at this little cafe in Brooklyn . She doesn’t really understand or get the whole world of these Upper East Sider kids, and that’s basically her in a nutshell.”

Jessica also gave information on what’s to happen next on the show’s storyline. She said that even though it is hard for Vanessa to accept the fact that Dan is happy with Serena, she still learns to support their relationship. “And Vanessa ends up really enjoying Serena’s company and thinks that she’s making Dan happy,” she added.

Vanessa won’t be that lonely after all, as Jessica admitted that Vanessa will actually meet someone from school. “They start to hang out a little bit. I’m not sure if they’ll end up dating or become really good friends, but she really enjoys his company,” teased Jessica.

With regards to their location, Jessica confessed to loving every minute spent in New York . “The city is so amazing. It has a different feel than L.A. does. It’s fun. There’s great energy here. And it reminds me a little bit of home,” said Jessica.

Aside from Gossip Girls, Jessica also appeared on shows CSI: Miami , What About Brian, That’s So Raven, Drake & Josh, My Wife and Kids and What I Like About You. She was also seen in the music videos of Matt White’s “Best Days” and Chris Daughtry’s “Over You”.

You might not spend $16,000 for a bottle of 1978 Romanee Conti in a London restaurant and hang around with Rolling stones bad boys Keith Richards and Ron Wood, but you can spend a week or two living like Johnny Depp in a French Chateau.

He spends 6 months a year when not filming living happily in a village in France with his wife Vanessa Paradis former Chanel girl and their 2 children, Jack and Lily-Rose.

Depp fell in love with France while shooting the Ninth Gate here in 1998. Today, locals regularly spot him picnicking with his family, shopping for veggies at the village market and riding around the countryside on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

“Each morning, I can go to the little village not far from my chateau, have a cup of coffee, sit there with my girl and not worry about the paparazzi,” he told reporters in 2001.

“I love America. I love going back, seeing my family and friends – but it’s wonderful to get back to France and be living in a tiny village with nothing around. There is still the possibility to live a simple life. You can go to the market, walk about, buy fruits and vegetables – the things they did 100 and 200 years ago. We have moments when we’re sitting in our house and our kids are playing, and we look at one another and think, ‘Thank God we escaped.’ “

He says he is shocked by the gun violence in American schools and feels it is far safer raising a family in France. “I want to raise my baby away from all the weirdness.”

Neighbours say “He’s someone who will join us old men for a friendly game of Boules on a Sunday afternoon then have a drink at the bar,” Depp, Paradis and their two kids generally go marketing on Thursday mornings and can be seen on many Sunday mornings wandering around an open-air flea market. It is a very normal family life.

“Johnny often has a little chat with us in French. He’s good, but not fluent yet.”

At 40, Depp loves to play loud electric guitar, wears clothes that could use a cleaning, occasionally orders $16,000 bottles of wine in restaurants, and pals around with Rolling Stones bad boys Keith Richards and Ron Wood. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are one of Hollywood’s A-list couples who’ve been releasing blockbusters left and right. The two first worked together on the set of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, and from then on became inseparable. Recently, Brad spoke up in Angelina’s defense when the New York Times asserted that she was quite an expert at handling the press. Brad said in an interview that, “It sounded to me like the story made Angie out to be manipulative in some way.  She is savvy… I get defensive. [They’re] talking about not only the woman I love, but one of the people on this planet who I have the greatest respect for. I think she’s as honorable as anyone I’ve ever met.”

Lately, the power couple has been seen out and about to promote Brad’s latest movie “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”. “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, tells the story of a man named Benjamin Button “…who starts aging backwards with bizarre consequences…” will be shown in theaters on Christmas Day. Brad’s co-stars have revealed their admiration for him, telling the press separately that they have a high regard for the star who known for his roles in “Fight Club”, “Troy”, “Meet Joe Black”, and many more. Co-star Jason Flemyng revealed his admiration for the way Brad has dealt with stardom, saying, “I’m sure he gets frustrated by it. It’s mental but he copes with a great sense of humor.” Jason added, “I don’t know this side of Brad.  I’ve made two movies with him and spent a lot of time with him. When we made Snatch we could go to a pub and have a drink. I don’t know this at all – it’s amazing.” Julia Ormond, another co-star, also sang Pitt’s praises.  “He’s just very much somebody who doesn’t really care about his looks and as an actor is way more talented than perhaps people would perceive.  I’m just really glad for him that he got to do a role that shows his range.”

Brad, who was outspoken in his support of Proposition 8, said that, “…To me, [it, is an issue of equality, and I go back to the Declaration of Independence – that we are all created equal.  We’re all free for life, liberty and pursuit of happiness and that proposition was stepping on people’s pursuit of happiness, people’s liberty, and I don’t think it has any place in our definition of America. So I hope we figure that one out.”
